BGE Counseling

Mission

The mission of the School Counseling Program at Bowling Green Elementary is to address the academic, career, and personal/social needs of the students. The goal is that each student in our school is prepared academically and socially with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful this year and throughout their lives. The philosophy that drives all activities is that all students are able to succeed and all students deserve the opportunity to succeed and excel in their academic and personal pursuits. The counseling curriculum includes classroom guidance, individual and small group counseling. In classroom guidance the children will participate in a variety of activities which will include stories, discussions, games, songs, videos, drawing, and writing. Topics for guidance lessons include Character Education, listening and test-taking skills, bully prevention activities, social skills and career exploration. The lessons correspond with the Standards for School Counseling Programs in Virginia Public Schools. Individual counseling, group activities, and consultation will be done on an as needed basis when requested by students, parents, and/or teachers.
